Questions & Answers
- Is Kristina's Oil the same as vegetable oil?
Technically, Kristina's Oil is vegetable-based seed oil; however, vegetable oils are not all created equally. Plant seeds store life-creating oils, since stored vegetable seed oil is used as an energy source for seeds when they germinate (2A,2B). Kristina's Oil is unique oil and should not be confused with common vegetable oils or with petroleum-based oils (mineral oil's, etc.), which are based on dead matter (14G).
- What's Castor oil used for?
Castor seed oil and its derivatives are used extensively in medicine, food, cosmetics, and countless industrial applications. See (Castor Oil Facts/FYI) for further data.
- How did you come up with the name Kristina's Oil?
To make a long story short, Kristina's green thumb is absolutely amazing, and we believe the name fits this amazing botanical lubricant. Here's Kristina looking at some lovely Castor plant seedpods with her keen eye.
"There's no substitute for the human touch by caring hands." (Gordy)
- I have read here and there that Castor plants and seeds are toxic, can you explain how the oil is non-toxic?
Many plants and seeds in the natural world have toxins and Castor seeds are among those, because it's universal that living matter can have defense mechanisms or protection (e.g., toxins) against predators, insects, bacteria, fungi, etc. Likewise, the Castor seed contains the toxin ricin. Ricin is a protein (a solid); whereas, Castor oil is a fatty acid or oil (a liquid), and cold pressing Castor seeds separates the two. The toxin (solid) stays with the seed because it's not oil (liquid); thus, cold pressed and filtered Castor oil is non-toxic (1).
- Are there safety issues with Kristina's Oil?
Yes, avoid contact with the eyes. Genuine first cold pressed Castor seed oil is potent (unlike other diluted Castor oil imitations), so it can irritate the eyes similar to pepper spray.
